The United States Marine Corps (USMC), also known as the US Marines, is the United States Armed Forces' maritime land force service branch responsible for conducting combined arms expeditionary and amphibious operations, as well as deploying its own infantry, artillery, aerial, and special operations forces. The United States Marine Corps is one of the country's eight uniformed services.

Since 30 June 1834, the Marine Corps and its sister branch, the United States Navy, have been part of the United States Department of the Navy. Around the world, the USMC maintains installations on land and on sea-going amphibious warfare ships. Several tactical aviation squadrons of the Marine Corps, notably Marine Fighter Attack squadrons, are also embedded in Navy carrier air wings and operate.

The Marine Corps was founded on 10 November 1775 in Philadelphia by two battalions of Continental Marines as a service branch of infantry troops capable of fighting at sea and on land. The Corps led a large amphibious combat campaign, marching from island to island, in the Pacific theater of World War II. The USMC has 182,000 active duty soldiers and 38,500 reserve personnel as of 2017.
